Hidden beauty

Beauty is everywhere, even when it’s staring us right in the face. It can be meek, warm, gentle and loving.

It can also be dynamic, colourful and vivid. It ascends, glides, floats and twirls. It’s untamed and strong. It’s honest and encapsulates the true essence of the object. It excites us and grants us a magical moment during the day.

Its personality has a creative imagination and although it may age it never loses its wonder. It takes forms and reinvents them to show us something new yet remains true to its original self. It’s engaging, unique and multilayered.

It grows and comes alive. It takes on an identity of its own. It lives even in the darkest of places. It’s the one thing in our soulless urbanisation that shines light and hope.

It intertwines itself into ordinary things which we don’t understand. It goes beyond the surface and adds value to the mundane removing any prohibitions we may have. It’s quirky, lovable and charming.

Beauty sometimes hides because it wants to be discovered. It can be in places we least expect – even in a public bathroom.

These photos were taken from the bathroom of St Ali’s Café in South Melbourne, Victoria. 12-18 Yarra Pl, South Melbourne.
